SWE-LA Scholarship Opportunity - Apply Now!!!

The Los Angeles Section of the Society of Women Engineers is pleased to announce their 2008 scholarship program. The application and instructions are available here for download, or can be obtained by e-mailing me at lauren.greiner@gmail.com.

Scholarships are open to women in undergraduate and graduate engineering programs at USC, UCLA, Caltech, Cal State LA, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly Pomona, Harvey Mudd, or Loyola Marymount. Scholarships are also available for women currently in an Associate's degree program but have future plans to enter a Bachelor's degree program in an engineering curriculum. Women considered to be re-entry students in an engineering program are also eligible, as well as those who have been awarded other scholarships and/or previous Society of Women Engineers scholarships.

In general, a successful applicant must demonstrate high academic ability and show a keen interest in her professional development in the engineering field by participating in technical organizations, holding leadership positions, conducting research projects, or pursuing engineering or non-engineering related work opportunities. She is a problem solver, a committed doer, and an effective communicator. She should be an example to other students as a potential leader, both technically and socially. Special consideration will be given to those with unique circumstances and financial need.

The SWE-LA Section awards a minimum of $500 to each recipient, but the award amount may exceed the minimum depending upon donations and applications. Last year we were able to give two $1,500 awards, one $1,000 award, and three $500 awards.

All completed applications, including supportive materials, must be postmarked no later than April 1, 2008. The scholarship committee will review all applications and conduct interviews in May/June. Award recipients will be notified in the summer and awards will be given at the SWE-LA Scholarship and Recognition Banquet in the fall.

SWE-LA looks forward to receiving applications. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at lauren.greiner@gmail.com or by phone at 586-709-9847.

Sincerely,
Lauren Greiner, Scholarship Chair
