The Los Angeles Section of the Society of Women Engineers is pleased to announce their 2015 scholarship program. The application and instructions are available here for download.
Scholarships are open to women and men in their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year of an undergraduate engineering program at USC, UCLA, Caltech, Cal State LA, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly Pomona, Harvey Mudd, or Loyola Marymount. Applicant must be a SWE student member and have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Graduating Senior applicants will be required to provide evidence of graduate school admission for the fall.
Applicants considered to be re-entry students in an engineering program are also eligible, as well as those who have been awarded other scholarships and/or previous Society of Women Engineers scholarships.
In general, a successful applicant must demonstrate high academic ability and show a keen interest in their professional development in the engineering field by participating in technical organizations, holding leadership positions, conducting research projects, or pursuing engineering or non-engineering related work opportunities. The applicant is a problem solver, a committed doer, and an effective communicator who should be an example to other students as a potential leader, both technically and socially. Special consideration will be given to those with unique circumstances and financial need.
The amount awarded each year varies depending upon the donations and applications received. In past years, the reward amount has been between $500 and $1,500 per recipient.
All completed applications, including supportive materials, must be submitted electronically no later than Friday, February 27, 2015. The scholarship committee will review all applications and conduct interviews in March. Award recipients will be notified by April 3, 2015. Scholarships will be awarded at the SWE-LA Professional Development Conference on Friday, April 24, 2015.
