Leadership Summit

The SWE Los Angeles Collegiate Leadership Summit is a one-day event providing local SWE collegiate sections with leadership coaching, networking, and section planning support.  If you would like to register your section for this event, please use the Collegiate Leadership Summit RSVP by Monday, April 2nd.

Registration: FREE
Parking at USC: $8 per car - Recommend parking in Parking Structure X (PSX), Campus Parking Map, nearest to Entrances 3 and 4.

FY 12/13 Section Planning


Breakout Sessions, 9:00 AM - Noon

Two sessions will be offered during each breakout session.  Attendees may choose their sessions on the day of the event.

SWE Officer Training

This module will help introduce new officers or potential officers to the roles and responsibilities of the SWE officer positions.  Additionally, this module will help you understand the SWE organization at all levels, including the mission and goals of the society.  It includes necessary report information, as well as resources for section officers at both the regional and national level.

Strategic and Tactical Planning

This module will help the section plan for the future.  The strategic plan will help the section align its objectives with the national organization’s objectives.  The tactical plan will discuss the importance of a plan this year.

Dealing with Leadership Burnout

This module will help you recognize the signs when members and/or officers are reaching a potential burnout.  It provides a forum for best practices for effective solutions, and will allow you to walk away with concrete ideas of prevention.

Hit the Ground Running

The Hit the Ground Running module is designed to help women in SWE understand the differences between college and the real world. It provides helpful hints for making the transition from college to career, discusses the SWE membership transition, and discusses the first year of work.

Collegiate Section Executive Councils (EC's) are invited to stay and work on their plans FY 12/13 with the leadership coaches and Los Angeles EC board.

You're in SWE, Now What?

 This module will help you understand the SWE organization at all levels, including the mission and goals of the Society.  Additionally, this module focuses on the value of a SWE membership and how the SWE organization can help you.

Building Teams

The Team Building Module defines what a team is compared to a group, discusses the phases of developing a team, teaming strategies, effective team traits, and how to continue to develop the team in the future.  This module describes forming, storming, norming, and performing as the cycle of building a team.

Effective Personal Communications

This module is designed to give an overview of personal communication.  It deals with email, face to face, and phone communication.  It is highly effective if the crowd participates and ask questions.  It can be geared toward the workplace or students striving for a job.  Some of the highlights include a proper way to shake hands and how to leave a voice mail.

Managing Effective Meetings

The Managing Effective Meetings Module describes the characteristics of effective meetings and introduces the tactics and methods to be employed by meeting facilitators to manage effective meetings.  At the conclusion of this training, participants should be familiar with tactics for managing effective meetings.

Collegiate Sections

SWE-Los Angeles is dedicated to working with collegiate sections! We give scholarships from the organization to support the educational goals of our engineering students, work to provide leadership training to the collegiate members, and welcome collegiate members to our Professional Developmet events! SWE-Los Angeles officers are always available to help your collegiate section.

SWE-LA supports collegiate sections at eight universities in the Los Angeles area.

Scholarship

SWE LA provides scholarships annually to undergraduate and graduate engineers through it's Scholarship Program.  Students at USC, UCLA, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, CSU Los Angeles, CSU Northridge, and CalPoly Pomona, and Loyola Marymount are eligible to apply.

Collegiate Leadership Summit

On April 7, SWE-LA will be providing Collegiate Leadership Training for collegiate members. If you are a collegiate SWE member in the Los Angeles area, you are welcome to attend! For additional details, visit Collegiate Leadership Summit.

 Are you a collegiate member graduating this year?  On Saturday, April 28, 2012, we're host a party for you!  Come to our Member Transition Party to meet the professional members of SWE LA and to hear about what professional membership can do for you.
